What
inspired us to create the book was to bring happiness into
people’s lives during and after the tragedy of 9/11. As a
young boy during my childhood who grew up in Seaside, California (a
small town in the Monterey Peninsula), I had always loved to write
about my daily life which was documented in my many journals. As
a result, I wanted to encompass all of my positive poetry which I wrote
during my 8+ years of being a traveling teacher for L.A. elementary
schools, and combine it with a few short stories into a
compilation. When my readers would read a poem or story, my
goal for them was to get their “energy boost” or
“vitamin for the day.”
In addition, our focus was to also bring musical funding back into the
California school system. During the first year of the launch of
Poetic Pieces, we committed to donating $1.00 a book sold to the music
program of my alma mater, Del Rey Woods School in Seaside, California.
On behalf of my staff and I, we would like to thank everyone who has
been responsible for the book’s success (acknowledgements inside
the book) since it’s official book signings in Hollywood at
Espresso Mi Cultura Café and Monterey, CA at Bookworks in
Pacific Grove both in December 2003.
During the past few years, I have been given the title of “The
P.o.e.t.i.c. Educator” and established the
“P.O.E.T.I.C.” symbol to be known as “Poetry on Earth
that is Cool…TM).
All of our books and products will be under the P.O.E.T.I.C. symbol.
Because of the success of the book, I have been honored and blessed as
the recipient of the Outstanding Young Californian Award 2004.by the
California Junior Chamber. It has been an amazing journey to
spread positive poetry and short stories throughout the world.
We made our goal of spreading positive poetry and to emphasize our
mission for all R.A. Mendoza Books and products in conjunction with R
& R Mendoza Company to “live
each day as “if was our last P.O.E.T.I.C. experience.”
